Setup

How the setup looks.

An assessment is a normal workspace with a problem and a rubric attached. You invite candidates to it by email; each gets their own private copy.

  1. Apply a problem and a rubric

    Start from the problem library or write your own: starter files, a prompt, and the criteria you want to score against (correctness, design, communication, whatever fits).

  2. Invite the candidate by email

    Send an invite from the assessment. The candidate gets a link, signs in, and accepts. Accepting clones the assessment into a private workspace that only they and your reviewers can see.

  3. They start the timed session

    The candidate clicks Start when ready. A fixed time limit auto-submits at the deadline; a due-date assessment stays open and just flags late submissions. Either way the clock is server-side and the same for everyone.

  4. You review and score

    The submission appears in your sidebar the moment it lands. Open the files read-only, replay the recording, read the AI transcript, and score against the rubric - with an AI-drafted first pass if you want one.

FAQ

What is the difference between a timed and a due-date assessment?
A timed assessment starts when the candidate clicks Start and auto-submits when the time limit runs out. A due-date assessment is open until a calendar deadline and never auto-submits; submissions after the deadline are accepted but flagged late. You choose per assessment.
Can the candidate keep working after they submit?
No. On submit (or when a timed session expires) the workspace freezes read-only for everyone, so what you review is exactly what was submitted. The reviewer view is read-only too.
Does the candidate need to install anything?
Nothing. It is a browser workspace with the runtime, editor, and terminal already set up. They open the link and start coding.
Can I see how the candidate used AI?
Yes. If the assessment has the AI assistant enabled, every prompt the candidate typed and every reply is saved to a transcript you can read on review. See the candidate AI assistant and AI-assisted grading features.
